Angry mob vandalises TMC leader's house, sets fire over corruption allegations
A man was killed during a domestic altercation in the Rajapur area of Canning in South 24 Parganas district on Friday night. The deceased has been identified as 55-year-old Swapan Sardar. Police said he died after being stabbed with a pair of scissors while trying to intervene in a fight between his son, Pradeep Sardar, and daughter-in-law, Mousumi Sardar. According to local sources, the couple had been facing ongoing domestic tensions.
During the incident, Mousumi allegedly picked up a pair of scissors in anger and tried to attack her husband amid the quarrel. Swapan stepped in to stop the fight and sustained injuries. He collapsed and was taken to Canning Sub-divisional Hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival. Police reached the spot shortly after the incident and detained Mousumi for questioning. As of Saturday, no formal arrest has been made.
Police have sent the body for post-mortem and have begun an investigation to determine the sequence of events. They are examining all angles, including the history of family disputes. The incident has caused tension in the local area, and additional police personnel were deployed to maintain order.
